We all know what is a "Resume". But have you ever heard about a Video Resume? As we know Internet has been responsible in changing a lot of things..ways of Life, the way we do things. Similarly Video Resume is one of such things.
To simply describe it, it is "A video resume is a brief account of a job applicant's professional experience, qualifications and interests, submitted to a prospective employer in video form"
Sound simple, isn't it. Though Video Resumes have been existing since quite some time in the form of VHS Tapes, but with the advent of "You Tube" ,broadband and cheap web cams, this is now very widespread.
There are various Pros and Cons to this, lets look at some of the Pros:
- Saves a lot of Recruitment and Travel Costs for both the Companies and the Candidate
- Good Video Resume can elevate the Candidate over others
- Its a Unique way of Presenting yourself as a Prospective Employee to the Company.
- One can show their Verbal and Creative Skills without making themselves available for Interview.
I could not think about any Cons, except that a ridiculous / funny video resume can land up on You Tube and become the laughing stock of people worldwide. It has happened before with a Yale University student.
Some Tips to create a Video Resume
- First Analyze whether a Video Resume is appropriate for the Industry
- The most successful video resume should feature short, to-the-point answers, superior editing skills and often a dash of humor.
